How it was made
One night in a rehearsal room on Memorial Drive
The brief
Ellis Ray had one night in a rehearsal room, two cameras and a handful of lamps. The song is about the quiet before you say something you can’t take back, and the video had to hold that without a story to lean on.
The edit
I cut to the breaths between lines rather than to the beat, and let some shots run longer than felt safe. The grade keeps the lamp light warm and lets the blacks be black.
What happened
Slow Burn passed 900,000 views in its first month and was licensed for a TV drama later that year.
